Organic Green Rooibos Earl Grey Tea 50g, tea bags
Green Rooibos Tea with Earl Grey – bright, bergamot-led and surprisingly clear
An Earl Grey based on green Rooibos approaches the cup differently from the classic black-tea Earl Grey. Instead of malt, heaviness or tannins, this blend feels brighter, clearer and lighter. The unfermented Rooibos provides a fresh, slightly grassy base on which the bergamot can unfold in a particularly clean and fragrant way.
That is exactly what makes this blend so interesting: it takes up the familiar Earl Grey idea, but feels less heavy and much more transparent in profile. The result is not a substitute for classic Earl Grey, but a South African interpretation with a style of its own.
Why green Rooibos works so well with bergamot
Green Rooibos remains unfermented and therefore feels fresher and brighter than red Rooibos. It is precisely this calmer, clearer base that gives bergamot room to shine. The citrus note does not come across as perfumed or artificial, but as lively and finely integrated.
This blend therefore lives from balance rather than intensity: Rooibos provides a gentle, naturally caffeine-free foundation, while bergamot adds direction, tension and the typical Earl Grey character.
How this blend tastes
At first, the infusion feels fresh and clear. Then the characteristic bergamot begins to unfold, with its fine bittersweet citrus note. The green Rooibos holds the blend together without pushing itself too far forward. That is exactly what makes this tea so approachable: aromatic and distinctive, but not heavy.
If you enjoy Earl Grey but would prefer to avoid caffeine, or are looking for a lighter and brighter alternative, this is a particularly convincing blend.
Directly from Skimmelberg
This tea comes from Skimmelberg in the Cederberg. The farm stands for organic Buchu and Rooibos products from South Africa and combines origin, processing and clear product ideas in a way you can recognise in the cup. That matters especially with a blend like this: it does not depend on effects, but on a clean and carefully built balance.
HOT INFUSION:
Pour about 250 ml of 90 °C hot water over one teabag in a cup or teapot and leave to steep for at least 4 minutes, depending on taste.
Enjoy it plain or refine it with a little honey, sugar, lemon or ginger, if you wish.
The most pleasant drinking temperature is around 60 °C.
This tea also remains a special pleasure when enjoyed cold.
