Organic Buchu Powder 50g
Skimmelberg Organic Buchu Powder, 50 g – the more open form of Buchu beyond the classic cup
When people smell Buchu for the first time, they usually do not think of an ordinary herbal tea. More often, it brings to mind blackcurrant, fresh mint and a cool, almost citrus-like clarity. This distinctive leaf aroma is exactly what makes Buchu so special – and why Buchu powder is more than simply finely ground tea.
Skimmelberg Organic Buchu Powder is intended for people who do not want to prepare Buchu only as a classic infusion, but who would like to dose it more consciously and use it more flexibly. Even small amounts are enough to give drinks or your own blends a distinctive botanical note.
How Buchu powder is made
Organic Buchu powder is not simply finely ground Buchu tea. At Skimmelberg, it is made from air-dried Buchu leaves and stems, which are milled and sieved. Whole Buchu leaves, by contrast, consist mainly of leaf material, as most stems are removed during processing.
This is exactly why Buchu powder feels different from whole or cut leaves. Its appeal does not lie in producing the most elegant cup, but in its more open format: finer, more direct, quicker to show itself, and especially interesting wherever Buchu is meant not only as a classic infusion, but as an aromatic ingredient with character.
How the aroma can be described
Buchu comes across as bright, cool and distinctive. Many describe the aroma as a combination of blackcurrant and mint, with a fresh, lightly citrusy edge. This tension is exactly what makes Buchu so interesting: not sweet, not easy-going, but clearly recognisable.
What the powder is especially suited for
- for cold botanical drinks with a character of their own
- for small amounts in herb or syrup ideas
- for individual blends with character
- for anyone who wants to explore Buchu beyond the cup
It is best to start sparingly. Buchu is not a neutral ingredient. That is exactly what makes it exciting – but also something you get to know gradually in terms of flavour.
Also suitable as an infusion
Organic Buchu powder can also be prepared in the classic way as a hot drink. Compared with whole leaves, the infusion usually feels more direct, more compact and a little less finely layered. That is why it is best to begin with small amounts.
- Per cup: approx. 1–2 g
- Water: 90–95 °C
- Steeping time: 4–6 minutes
- Tip: Let it settle afterwards or strain it.
Directly from Skimmelberg
This Buchu comes directly from Skimmelberg in the Cederberg. There, Buchu is not only grown, but also further processed. That suits a product like this perfectly: Buchu is a plant in which the aroma matters – not just the form stated on the label.
Note on the first batch
This organic Buchu powder comes from a small trial batch that Skimmelberg originally prepared for Biofach in Nuremberg. That is why the back of the pack carries the wording “Sample – not for sale”.
The contents nevertheless correspond to the original organic Buchu powder directly from Skimmelberg. This first small batch is being offered deliberately in order to see how much interest there is in Buchu powder in the German-speaking market.
