Looking for a caffeine-free espresso alternative that’s neither too bold nor too mild? This blend combines the warm body of rooibos with the sweet, floral note of honeybush. As a loose espresso-style option for a portafilter, you get maximum barista control – for lattes, cappuccinos and iced drinks in true red-espresso style.

What Honeybush & Rooibos Espresso (loose) tastes like

Quickstart: brewing in a portafilter (loose)

  • Use a double basket and briefly preheat portafilter/cup.
  • Work like with espresso: distribute evenly and tamp cleanly.
  • Start with a short pull (not a “lungo”).
  • If you want more intensity: two short pulls instead of one long.

Tip: With loose “espresso” you have more room to fine-tune. If the shot runs very fast, use a bit more coffee or tamp slightly firmer. If it runs very slow, use a bit less or tamp a little lighter. That’s how you’ll quickly find your sweet spot.

Make it stronger (practical tips)

  • Short, not long: pull it concentrated so the blend stays “smooth”.
  • Milk drinks: two short pulls give more flavour.
  • Iced: pull directly over ice, then (optional) top up with milk.

Red drinks like in a café

Red Cappuccino (180 ml)

  • Preheat the cup.
  • Let 25–30 ml of blend espresso run into the cup.
  • Froth 100–150 ml milk (up to max. 65 °C).
  • Pour in the milk, stir briefly, enjoy.

Red Latte (240 ml)

  • Preheat the latte glass.
  • About 30 ml of blend espresso into the glass.
  • Froth about 210 ml milk (up to max. 65 °C).
  • Pour in the milk (pitcher close to the glass, gently move side to side).

Tip: This blend is especially harmonious in milk. For more aroma, use two short pulls instead of one long.
